Today, La Rosière is a vibrant ski resort offering a full range of winter activities, from skiing and snowboarding to snowshoeing, ice skating, and mountain spas. Its welcoming locals uphold mountain traditions while providing warm service to visitors. La Rosière continues to thrive as an authentic mountain destination, where a passion for nature, snow, and conviviality reigns supreme.

History of La Rosière

The story begins in the hamlet of Montvalezan in 1920 with the creation of a skiers' association called the "Union Sportive de Montvalezan." Until then, the region had been primarily used for agriculture and livestock farming. It was the rise of alpine tourism and the democratization of winter sports in the 20th century that profoundly transformed La Rosière into a winter sports destination. In the mid-1960s, the development of its ski lift and accommodation infrastructure began, and the ski area boasted three ski lifts.

A cross-border destination

A key moment in La Rosière's history was the creation of the cross-border link with the Italian resort of La Thuile. This connection to Italian culture allowed for the creation of a unique ski area with a diversity of slopes, landscapes, and experiences. In 1985, the Bellecombe ski lift and the Chardonnet chairlift made it possible to cross the border.
